Capricorn 3D

Last year, I got a chance to color Erik Lervold's Capricorn drawing in watercolor.
(See below, see?)

I liked the design. It has cyberpunk, steampunk and fantasy elements going on.
And Erik designed her for a game (not sure what kinda game he's working on tho.)
And I wanted to turn her into a 3D model...at least into a high-poly sculpture first.

In the video below, you can see me measuring the cyborg arm-length of the redrawn Capri in neutral T-pose.

First I modeled the mechanical parts and the base mesh for the body in 3ds Max.

After that, I imported the mesh into zBrush and started sculpting the other parts.

The video below shows the progression of the mouth....just a quick time-line scrub.

This face is a little different from the final face. I just wanted to show it here because it kinda looks like Margaret Keane's Big Eyes paintings.

The original horns Erik drew resembled those of a Cape Buffalo rather than the horns of a mountain goat which is the top half of Capricorn. So I decided to give her Alpine Ibex' horns on top. (Male horns cuz they're epic!!)

I kinda like the brunette-look better. Excuse the scary clay-eyes. I ended up using Matcap Skeleton material with intensity all the way up to make them glow.

Annnd...here's the turntable video.

This is it, pals and gals! I had so much fun sculpting Capri. (It'd be even more fun if my computer wasn't a 4-year-old mid-range laptop). I'll work on retopologizing and making her a game-ready low-poly model in the future.

Please let me know if you have any zBrush or 3ds Max questions. Ok?
Cool!

P.S: If you wanna see more of Erik's designs and Illustrations, please check out the links below.

The Man Who Fell To Earth

The Man Who Fell To Earth by kevinkosmo on DeviantArt

So, since the beginning of this month (March 2016), I started to learn Maya. With the recent passing of David Bowie, I decided to pay tribute to him by modeling him in Maya and sculpting in zBrush. His reference photos are pretty easy to find. I also watched "The Man Who Fell To Earth" and "Labyrinth" for the first time!...and took many screenshots to get his face from as many angles as possible.
Reference be important!

That pimple was in the movie for like a scene or two.

I can't really show you my finished low poly version because it looks like a dummy. I'll show you this w.i.p. shot tho.

So I came across this artist by the name of Jessine Hein who sculpted Bowie's original fucked up teeth. I used Jess' sculpture as reference to model Bowie's dentures in Maya for low-poly model.
Here's what I got!

Yikes!
Polypainting the skin...well..I used my own hand as reference this time :P
Hair creation using Fibremesh in zBrush....It's easy to groom Goblin King's hair at this stage
Here's a screenshot I used as a reference
Skin details close-up
Bowie got into a fight and got punched in the eye when he was a kid. One of his eyes never stopped freaking out ever since.

Here's the final piece again...just in case, the plug-in on top from DeviantArt fails to load.

So, uh, ya! That's about it! It took me about 20 days to create a cgi Bowie tribute character. Most of the time went into watching tutorials and experimentation though. And now that I know how to do things, the next project should take much much less time of course!

zBrush files (.ztl tool files for this model) are available for my patrons on Patreon
